In June 2008, Lancaster Presbyterian Church, by unanimous congregational vote, withdrew from the Presbyterian Church, USA (PCUSA) in order to re-align with the Evangelical Presbyterian Church. In September 2008 the realignment was completed and LPC was officially received, Pastor Kelly Negus was ordained and the congregation was received.
The EPC, headquartered in Livonia, Michigan consists of about 300 churches and about 115,000 members and is growing. LPC is a member of the Presbytery of the East. The EPC is both evangelical and Presbyterian. The EPC is Evangelical in its zeal for the Gospel, as well as evangelism, missions and living obediently as followers of Jesus. At the same time, deeply rooted in the Protestant Reformation, especially the theological and pastoral work of John Calvin, we embrace the Westminster Confession of Faith as our doctrinal standard and the rule of spiritually mature elders linked together regionally as the best way to guide local congregations.
Both the Westminster Confession Faith and the "Essentials of Our Faith" are important documents in the Evangelical Presbyterian Church. The Westminster Confession of Faith and "Essentials of Our Faith" are not alternative statements of truth, nor are they competitive statements of truth. They each serve important and harmonious purposes within the EPC. The Westminster Confession of Faith preserves our commitment to the historic orthodoxy of the Reformed Faith. "Essentials of Our Faith" preserves our commitment to historic evangelicalism.
